Weeks go by

Posted by Cody on March 23, 2009

It is really easy to get caught up in last minute doing your school work, trying to get a job, and getting less sleep than your body desires. All of these add up to time flying by, which is bad news. My time is winding down here and I can’t not think of all the things and people I will miss. Time is sparse. I hope to make more time soon for blogging about more personal things.

God

Help me finish this semester well by maintaining relationships, continuing to see what you have for me, answering open doors of conversation and opportunity and most importantly, continuing to seek out your will instead of mine.

What up everybody!

Posted by Cody on March 16, 2009

I watched a lot of “How I met your mother” over break. I made sure other people got as addicted to it as I did. I managed to finish the second viewing of seasons 1-3. Salim, Jordan, and Scott will never be the same. That is why I like to say “what up.” My head says it the same way Barney does. Check it out sometime.

Break. Solid.

Horning in DC. Laci, Julia, Christine, and friends in Charlotte. Jordan and Scott in Columbia. Horning and Kenny Hiser in DC. Parents in W.C. All along the way was Salim. Good times.

Settlers in DC. Caribou, tennis, and double church in Charlotte. Road trip within a road trip, ping-pong, and no sleep in columbia. Alphabet game through W.C. I dominated Salim Z-Q.

That’s it. That was my last Spring Break ever. What a sad time. I’m bad at the “last” of things. Too emotional. This whole thing is over soon. We all hate school, but the sweet lives we have of living in affordable apartments with our friends and eat pizza at 3 am while we procrastinate and make memories is pretty solid. It’s a sweet deal and it will end soon. Oh, how to cope with it? who knows. Boo sauce.

Good news. Retreat is 2 weeks away. Hollar.

Cookout is the best deal in America.

Great albums= “Everglow” by Mae. “Futures” by Jimmy Eat World. “Cities” by Anberlin. “In motion” by Copeland. “Illuminate” by David Crowder Band. “The heat” by Needtobreathe.

Seriously, those are great albums.

See you around. I can only Hope.

Fire Alarm

Posted by Cody on March 6, 2009

Seriously? I’ve been here 5 years and that has never happened. I suppose it is a good thing it went off right during the “Amen” part instead of during the song. Cuz, i would have finished the song, ha.

I’m not actually blogging about much that happened, rather what is going to happen. I am leaving for a road trip today to the usual destination: The South. DC, Charlotte, Columbia. Pete Horning, Laci Liggett, Jordan Spillane, and Kenny Hiser. Gracious hosts. I love them all. I will be bringing Salim George along with me because he had boring plans and now they are not boring.

When I return, I am going the nostalgic path. I will have one post per year of school that I was here to see what i remember about each year, should be interesting.

3 weeks till the retreat. you should definitely go.

Happy Spring Break everyone!

Hymn Sunday

Posted by Cody on March 2, 2009

Props to Jess. She was not suppose to sing yesterday. We had a guest singer lined up who got the flu and when she called me at 7 am with no voice to say that she blacked out 3 times in the shower, I was left with no choice but to call Jess that early. She willingly showed up and did a great job.

Well, yesterday was an attempt to please people from lancaster, er, i mean traditional backgrounds. We tried to spice up some hymns and older songs. I can say it was quite a challenge to play so many hymns. Not exactly as easy as a Chris Tomlin song to play. My favorite, however, is before the throne of God above. I enjoyed that one. And now that hymn sunday is over, we don’t have to play any of them again for a year, haha.

I wills ay this: the lyrics are always deeper and with greater magnitude in hymns. “We stand and lift up our hands”, not quite as eloquent and meaningful as “No tounge can bid me thence depart.” Stories are told versus respraises sung. I think they both have there place.

Currently Retreat planning. Something about 8-9 songs per night is very hard to choose which songs to play versus a typical 5-6 Sunday or Wednesday. Ideas everywhere, having trouble tying it together. Will work tirelessly to perfect it though. This is my last Retreat. Crazy how that crept up on me like that. I’m gonna leave it all on the hardwood floor of Golden Pond.

p.s. See Pete Horning’s Stache anyone?

(I don’t feel like looking up authors to hymns)

  • Come, now is the time to worship
  • All creatures of our God and King
  • Before the throne of God above
  • In Christ Alone
  • Jesus Paid it All
  • Take my life and let it be
  • Nothing but the blood
  • You said
  • Shout to the Lord
